PARLIAMENTARY PANEL RESET REDUCES TRINAMOOL’S SHARE OF KEY COMMITTEE POSITIONS
October 3, 2026
NEW DELHI — The Trinamool Congress has lost several important positions in parliamentary standing committees following a reshuffle of committee assignments, marking a significant change in the party’s representation in key parliamentary panels.
The changes have affected the distribution of chairperson and other senior positions across standing committees, with members from other political parties taking over some of the posts previously held by Trinamool Congress representatives.
Parliamentary standing committees play an important role in examining legislation, government policies, departmental functioning and public expenditure. Their composition is periodically adjusted to reflect changes in the strength and representation of political parties in Parliament.
The latest reshuffle is expected to have political significance for the Trinamool Congress, which has been one of the prominent opposition parties in Parliament. The party’s reduced presence in leadership positions on certain panels comes amid continuing negotiations and competition among parties over parliamentary committee representation.
The revised allocation will determine the composition and leadership of the committees for the remaining period of the current parliamentary term.
