RELIANCE EYES SIX INDUSTRIAL FRONTIERS AS BENGAL STEPS UP BID FOR MAJOR INVESTMENTS

October 1, 2026

A delegation from Reliance Industries met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata to discuss potential investments across six sectors, as the state government intensifies its efforts to attract large-scale industrial projects.

The discussions focused on opportunities in information technology, semiconductors, data infrastructure, energy and other areas of industrial development. The meeting followed Adhikari’s recent interaction with Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and Anant Ambani in Mumbai, where the group had indicated interest in expanding its presence in the state.

Among the proposals under consideration are a potential subsea cable landing station in Digha, a data centre in Rajarhat and a food-processing park in north Bengal. These projects could strengthen digital infrastructure, improve connectivity and expand industrial activity across different regions of the state.

The proposed investments form part of the government’s broader strategy to attract private capital, encourage technology-driven industries and generate employment. Reliance has already been allotted land at the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub in New Town for a data centre, while further investment possibilities are being explored.

The state government is also engaging with other major industrial groups and companies across sectors such as manufacturing, defence equipment, renewable energy and pharmaceuticals. Officials have been seeking to promote industrial parks and improve access to land for prospective investors.

No final investment amount, project timeline or binding commitment was announced following the meeting. The proposals remain at the exploratory stage, with further discussions expected to determine their feasibility and implementation.

The engagement marks another step in Bengal’s efforts to position itself as a destination for major industrial and technology investments, with the potential projects now subject to further evaluation by Reliance and the state government.
