September 25, 2026
KOLKATA: The mother of the doctor who was raped and murdered at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024 has alleged that her husband was held at gunpoint and threatened with consequences after the family was allegedly offered money following their daughter’s death.
According to the mother’s account, police officers allegedly offered money at the family’s residence after the doctor’s body was brought home. She further alleged that three local Trinamool Congress leaders subsequently threatened her husband with a gun and warned him against disclosing the incident. The allegations have not been independently established.
The mother also alleged irregularities in the handling and cremation of her daughter’s body, claiming that the family had been unable to track its movement and had sought a second post-mortem. She said the family had now placed its grievances before the court and expected justice under the new government.
The Central Bureau of Investigation submitted a status report before the Calcutta High Court on Thursday. The court directed the inspector-in-charge of Khardah police station and the investigating officer handling the alleged cremation-related irregularities to appear before it on October 1.
