SUVENDU ADHIKARI SEEKS BJP SWEEP IN KOLKATA AND HOWRAH, PITCHES ‘TRIPLE-ENGINE’ GOVERNANCE
October 13, 2026
KOLKATA: Senior BJP leader and CM Suvendu Adhikari has urged voters in Kolkata and Howrah to give the party a decisive mandate in the upcoming civic polls, advocating a “triple-engine government” to improve coordination between municipal bodies, the state government and the Centre.
Adhikari’s appeal places the BJP’s civic-election campaign around the argument that political alignment across all three levels of governance would facilitate better coordination and the implementation of development initiatives. He has called on voters to support the BJP in the municipal contests in both cities.
The “triple-engine” formulation is a central political pitch intended to highlight the potential advantages of having the same party govern at the municipal, state and national levels. The BJP is seeking to strengthen its position in urban Bengal, where civic issues and local administration are likely to feature prominently in the electoral contest.
The appeal also signals the party’s effort to turn the civic polls into a broader political test in Kolkata and Howrah. The eventual outcome will depend on voters’ assessments of local governance, municipal services and the competing parties’ promises.
