SUVENDU ADHIKARI SETS BJP’S BENGAL 2029 AMBITION: SWEEP EVERY LOK SABHA SEAT

October 8, 2026

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has set an ambitious electoral target for the BJP in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, declaring that his party will work under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to secure all 42 parliamentary seats in the state.

Adhikari made the statement in Gujarat’s Vadnagar while addressing a programme marking Modi’s 25 years in public life. He said his government was seeking to replicate Gujarat’s development model in West Bengal and credited Modi with providing leadership that, according to him, had helped bring the BJP to power in Bengal.

West Bengal currently has 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. In the 2024 general election, the BJP won 12 of them, while the Trinamool Congress secured 29 and the Congress won one. Adhikari’s declaration therefore represents a substantially higher target for the BJP compared with its previous parliamentary performance in the state.

During his speech, the Chief Minister also criticised previous Left Front and Trinamool Congress governments, while highlighting central welfare and development initiatives. He praised both Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their roles in the BJP’s 2026 Assembly campaign in Bengal.

Adhikari’s remarks indicate that the BJP government in West Bengal has already begun framing its political strategy around the 2029 Lok Sabha election, with the party seeking to translate its recent Assembly victory into a much larger parliamentary presence across the state.
