SUVENDU SAYS HE PLANNED TO SEND ELDERLY PARENTS TO ODISHA AMID ELECTION FEARS

September 27, 2026

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has said he had considered moving his elderly parents to Odisha if the BJP had failed to form the government in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Speaking at an event at the National Library in Kolkata on Saturday, Adhikari said he had been prepared to face imprisonment if the election result had gone against his party and had therefore considered sending his 90-year-old father and mother, who is over 80, to Odisha.

Adhikari said the people of West Bengal had “saved” the state, while referring to the political circumstances surrounding the election. His remarks were made at an event attended by RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale.

The comments came amid continuing political debate in West Bengal over the state’s political direction, security, cultural issues and the recent Assembly election.
