FLAMES AND CLASHES HALT PALESTINIAN FAMILY’S RETURN HOME IN WEST BANK
September 30, 2026
More than 100 Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Jalud in the occupied West Bank, disrupting an attempt by the Tubasi family to return to two homes they had been unable to access for several weeks.
The family had been staying elsewhere in the village after leaving their homes amid repeated harassment and violence. Israeli security forces had agreed to escort the family back and provide protection during the return operation.
Shortly after the family reached the properties, a large group of settlers arrived, blocked roads and set fire to the houses and nearby vehicles. Stones were also thrown at Israeli security personnel, leaving three officers injured, according to the Israeli military.
As the confrontation intensified, the planned operation to restore the family to their homes was abandoned. The family was evacuated from the area as the violence escalated, while the houses suffered extensive damage, including burned interiors, damaged doors and windows and destruction of household fixtures.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the violence and called for those responsible to face prosecution. The Israeli military said two settlers had been arrested and that an investigation had been opened into the incident.
The episode comes amid continuing tensions in the West Bank, where settler attacks, disputes over land and the displacement of Palestinian residents have remained a major source of conflict. A separate incident in the village of Al Mughayyir also involved vehicles being set on fire and property being marked with the word “revenge.”
The latest violence has further highlighted the difficulties faced by Palestinian families seeking to return to homes amid escalating confrontations between settlers, residents and Israeli security forces.
