HEAVY RAINS TRIGGER DEADLY FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES ACROSS NEPAL

September 29, 2026

At least 27 people have been killed across Nepal after five days of intense rainfall triggered floods, landslides, lightning and other weather-related incidents. Seven people have been injured and four others remain missing, according to authorities.

The disasters have affected more than 1,000 families since September 24, with hundreds of homes damaged or destroyed. Major roads and highways have also suffered extensive damage, disrupting transport and making access to several affected areas difficult.

Infrastructure has been heavily affected, including hydropower facilities and key road corridors. Rescue and repair operations are continuing as authorities assess the damage and work to restore transportation and essential services.

The prolonged rainfall follows warnings from Nepal’s meteorological authorities of heavy to very heavy precipitation across several parts of the country. Rising river levels and saturated slopes have increased the risks of flash floods and landslides.

Authorities have continued relief and rescue operations in affected districts while monitoring rivers, vulnerable settlements and transport routes. Further rainfall could complicate recovery efforts and increase the risk of additional flooding and landslides.
