MOSCOW WELCOMES INDIA’S PUSH FOR A PRACTICAL PATH TOWARDS UKRAINE PEACE

October 7, 2026

Russia has welcomed India’s willingness to make a practical contribution towards resolving the Ukraine conflict, signalling growing Russian support for New Delhi’s expanding diplomatic engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was grateful for India’s readiness and for the ideas being put forward by New Delhi. His remarks came amid reports that India has presented a broad, three-part framework aimed at creating conditions for a possible ceasefire and eventual settlement.

India’s diplomatic efforts have increasingly moved beyond simply calling for dialogue. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said New Delhi is engaging with both sides on issues including the safety of Black Sea shipping, grain and energy exports and possible arrangements to prevent attacks.

The initiative comes as fighting continues and attacks on energy and port infrastructure remain a major concern. India is seeking to use its relationships with both Russia and Ukraine to encourage practical measures that could reduce hostilities and create space for negotiations.

Moscow’s positive response strengthens India’s emerging role as a potential diplomatic bridge in the conflict, although any substantive settlement will ultimately depend on the willingness of Russia and Ukraine to accept mutually workable terms.
