NEPAL FLOODS WORSEN AS FRESH RAINS TRIGGER FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES
September 27, 2026
Heavy rainfall has triggered fresh floods and landslides across Nepal, disrupting traffic on several major highways and worsening conditions in areas still recovering from last month’s devastating floods.
Continuous rain since September 24 has affected at least 11 major highways, including the Prithvi and BP highways. Landslides, flooding and road erosion have blocked or restricted several sections, while authorities have deployed crews to clear debris and restore connectivity.
The latest weather emergency comes a month after catastrophic flash floods killed at least 1,453 people and left 5,285 others unaccounted for. Authorities are still recovering and identifying bodies, repairing damaged roads and bridges, and reaching communities isolated by the earlier disaster.
Officials have urged motorists and travellers to exercise caution, particularly in areas vulnerable to further landslides. Continued rainfall is complicating road-clearance operations and raising concerns over additional flooding in vulnerable communities.
