NEW DELHI REBUFFS ERDOGAN’S KASHMIR REMARKS AT UN AS DIPLOMATIC TENSIONS RISE

India has rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, describing the comments as unwarranted.

Responding to questions about Erdoğan’s remarks, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Jammu and Kashmir concerns India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and that no external party has a role in the matter.

Erdoğan had referred to Kashmir during his UNGA speech and said that the issue should be addressed through dialogue. His comments brought the longstanding India-Pakistan dispute over Kashmir into the diplomatic proceedings at the UN.

New Delhi’s response reiterated its position that Kashmir is an internal matter involving India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The government has consistently opposed internationalisation of the issue or intervention by third countries.

The exchange comes amid broader diplomatic engagement between India and Türkiye at international forums, while Ankara has previously made statements concerning Kashmir that have drawn objections from New Delhi.

India’s latest response reflects its continued policy of rejecting external references to Jammu and Kashmir in international diplomatic forums and maintaining that the issue should not be subject to third-party involvement.
