October 5, 2026
A Nigerian military aircraft carrying 32 people crashed in the southern part of the country, triggering an urgent rescue operation as authorities scrambled to determine the fate of those on board.
The aircraft reportedly went down in a wooded area of the country’s southern region while carrying military personnel and other occupants. Emergency teams were immediately deployed to the crash site, with rescue workers facing difficult terrain as they searched for survivors and accounted for everyone aboard.
The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear. Nigerian authorities were expected to investigate the aircraft’s flight history, mechanical condition and weather and operational conditions surrounding the incident.
The crash has renewed concerns over aviation safety involving military aircraft in Nigeria, where the armed forces have previously suffered several aviation accidents during training, transport and operational missions.
As the rescue operation continued, authorities maintained a cautious approach regarding casualties, with officials working to establish the full extent of the disaster and locate all 32 people who were aboard the aircraft.
