NEW DELHI: One Indian seafarer was killed and 19 others were rescued after the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao came under attack off the eastern coast of Oman while sailing towards India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.
According to the ministry, all 20 Indian seafarers aboard the vessel were accounted for, with 19 rescued and one losing his life. The Indian Embassy in Oman is coordinating with Omani authorities to facilitate the early repatriation of the rescued crew members.
The MEA condemned the attack and described the continuing targeting of commercial shipping in the region as deeply concerning. It called for an immediate end to attacks on commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure.
India also reiterated its appeal for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce regional tensions and restore free, safe and uninterrupted navigation and commercial activity through international waterways.
