OVERNIGHT RUSSIAN STRIKES HIT KYIV AND ENERGY NETWORK, MOSCOW CLAIMS
September 30, 2026
Russia has said its forces carried out a large-scale overnight strike against targets in and around Kyiv, including a communications facility in the Ukrainian capital, energy infrastructure and port facilities in the southern Odesa region.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said the strikes hit a data centre in Kyiv that it described as an important internet-traffic hub supporting Ukrainian military communications. Moscow also reported attacks on several electricity facilities in the Kyiv region, including power substations and thermal and hydroelectric plants.
The Russian military said the targeted energy installations supplied electricity to Ukraine’s defence-industrial sector and military facilities in and around Kyiv. It also claimed that an industrial facility at the port of Izmail was struck because it was being used to handle military equipment and fuel.
According to Moscow, a dry-cargo vessel in the northwestern Black Sea was also hit after being identified as carrying military equipment and dual-use goods destined for Ukraine. The claims could not be independently verified.
Ukrainian officials separately reported deaths and injuries following Russian missile and drone attacks across Kyiv and the surrounding region. Three people, including a child, were reported killed, while several others were injured and residential and commercial properties were damaged.
The latest attacks come amid an intensifying campaign of long-range strikes by both Russia and Ukraine against infrastructure and military-related targets. The continuing exchanges have increasingly affected energy, communications, industrial and logistics facilities far from the front lines.
