PAKISTAN STRIKES 10 AFGHAN SITES OVER ALLEGED DRONE ATTACKS

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan carried out air and drone strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan that it said were being used to launch and store drones targeting Pakistani territory, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday.

According to Pakistan, its air-defence systems detected and neutralised drones launched from Afghanistan on Wednesday before they could reach their intended targets. Tarar said the subsequent strikes were limited to military objectives linked to the attempted drone attacks.

The Pakistani government has accused Afghanistan's Taliban authorities of allowing militant groups to operate from Afghan territory and carry out cross-border attacks. Kabul has repeatedly rejected the allegation and says militancy inside Pakistan is an internal problem.

The latest strikes mark another escalation between the two neighbouring countries after several months of relative calm. Afghan officials said the strikes were carried out in parts of southeastern Khost province, while a local official said there were no casualties.
