REPORTS DETAIL MULTIPLE WARNINGS RECEIVED BEFORE OCTOBER 7 HAMAS ATTACK

September 28, 2026

Multiple reports have brought renewed attention to warnings received by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials before the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack. The reports describe warnings from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Israeli security officials concerning possible major Hamas operations.

According to recent reporting, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke with Netanyahu in September 2023 and warned of indications that Hamas was preparing a major operation. The New York Times, citing former senior Israeli officials and other sources, reported that the warning was not subsequently communicated to senior Israeli security officials. Netanyahu’s office has denied receiving such a warning, calling the allegation false.

Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel also reportedly conveyed warnings to Israeli officials in the period preceding the attack. Recent reports say Kamel made multiple contacts, including a warning to Netanyahu shortly before October 7. Earlier accounts had also documented concerns within Israeli intelligence and security circles about Hamas’s preparations and intentions.

Separate investigations have highlighted a Hamas battle plan obtained by Israeli intelligence before the attack. The plan, reportedly known as “Jericho Wall”, was assessed by Israeli military officials as unrealistic, according to earlier reporting. Recent accounts have also revisited warnings from Shin Bet officials concerning unusual Hamas activity and the possibility of a major escalation.

The reports have intensified debate in Israel over the chain of responsibility and the handling of intelligence before October 7. Netanyahu has disputed claims that he personally received advance warnings of the scale and nature of the planned assault, while former and current security figures have offered differing accounts. The precise significance of the individual warnings and whether they could have prevented the attack remain subjects of investigation and political dispute.
