RUSSIA UNLEASHES LARGE-SCALE AERIAL ASSAULT AS KYIV AND MULTIPLE UKRAINIAN REGIONS COME UNDER FIRE
October 7, 2026
KYIV, OCTOBER 7: Russia launched a large-scale wave of missile and drone strikes against Kyiv and several other Ukrainian regions, marking another major escalation in the ongoing air war between the two countries.
Russian authorities said the operation targeted Ukrainian military and energy-related infrastructure, while Ukrainian officials reported attacks across multiple areas. Air-raid warnings were issued in Kyiv and other parts of the country as Ukrainian air-defence units attempted to intercept incoming missiles and drones.
Explosions were reported in and around the Ukrainian capital, with authorities urging residents to remain in shelters. Damage to infrastructure and residential areas was reported in several locations, while emergency services were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the strikes.
The attacks came amid continuing Russian and Ukrainian long-range strikes, with both sides increasingly targeting infrastructure far from the front lines. Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia of attempting to damage critical energy facilities and disrupt civilian life, particularly as the country approaches another winter of war.
Russia, meanwhile, has maintained that its strikes are directed at military objectives and infrastructure supporting Ukraine's war effort. Kyiv has continued to call for stronger air-defence support from its international partners as Russian attacks intensify.
The latest barrage underscores the continuing vulnerability of Ukrainian cities to long-range attacks and the persistent importance of air defence as the war enters another critical phase.
