KYIV: Russian drone strikes targeted railway infrastructure, warehouses and petrol stations in Kyiv on Wednesday, killing two people and injuring 45, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Two of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.

The attacks continued from morning into the evening, with high-speed, jet-powered drones reportedly striking several locations across the Ukrainian capital. A nine-storey non-residential building, a business centre and warehouses were among the sites damaged. Railway infrastructure was also hit, injuring one employee, although the main railway station itself was not damaged.

Ukrainian oil company Ukrnafta said one of its petrol stations had been struck, marking the sixth such facility attacked in Kyiv in recent weeks. Authorities said two petrol stations were hit during the latest assault.

The strikes came shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met US President Donald Trump in New York to discuss a possible ceasefire covering energy infrastructure. Zelenskiy said Ukraine was prepared for an agreement if Russia also halted attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. Moscow, however, stated that conditions for renewed high-level peace talks had not yet been established.
