RUSSIAN JET-POWERED DRONES STRIKE KYIV SCIENCE ACADEMY AS WIDESPREAD ATTACKS KILL 10

A series of Russian drone strikes across Ukraine on September 28 killed at least 10 people and injured more than 80, according to Ukrainian officials. One of the most significant attacks struck the National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv, where two people were killed and 24 others injured.
The attack damaged the historic Academy building, with emergency workers searching through debris after the strike. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the targeting of a scientific institution during working hours and called for additional international assistance for Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had increasingly deployed faster, jet-powered drones that fly at higher altitudes and are more difficult to intercept. Of 120 drones launched during the latest assault, he said around 90 were jet-powered, while Ukraine’s interception rate stood at about 57 per cent.
Elsewhere, a drone strike on a business centre in the southeastern city of Dnipro killed three people and injured 19. Other strikes damaged civilian facilities, infrastructure and communications sites in several regions, while an attack in Synelnykove also caused a death.
The latest wave reflects the continuing expansion of aerial attacks across Ukrainian urban areas and infrastructure. Ukraine is testing new interceptor systems intended to improve its ability to counter the newer generation of faster drones, while both Moscow and Kyiv continue to deny deliberately targeting civilians
