Russian missile and drone strikes struck Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and surrounding areas on September 30, killing a child and injuring at least five people, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks also damaged residential buildings, warehouses and other infrastructure, as Moscow intensified its aerial campaign ahead of winter.

Explosions were reported across Kyiv during the overnight assault, with fires breaking out in private homes, a store and a warehouse. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that two people were injured in the capital, while emergency services responded to fires and damage caused by the strikes.

In the surrounding Kyiv region, a child was killed and several others injured after Russian attacks hit residential areas and infrastructure facilities. Regional authorities reported damage to houses, vehicles and commercial buildings, with rescue personnel deployed to affected locations.

The strikes formed part of a broader Russian aerial assault targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and other facilities across multiple regions. Ukrainian officials reported damage to critical infrastructure, raising concerns about the reliability of electricity supplies as colder weather approaches.

Russia said its overnight operation targeted facilities linked to Ukraine’s military capabilities, including energy sites and communications infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities have condemned the attacks, warning that damage to essential services could place additional pressure on civilians during the coming winter.

The latest assault has heightened concerns over Ukraine’s energy security and civilian safety, as repeated missile and drone attacks continue to disrupt daily life and place emergency services under strain.
