TRUMP SHARES SHARIF’S UN PRAISE FOR HIS ROLE IN HALTING OPERATION SINDOOR
September 26, 2026
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has shared a video clip of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the United Nations General Assembly in which Sharif praised Trump’s “timely intervention” during the 2025 India-Pakistan military confrontation. Trump posted the 87-second clip on Truth Social without adding a comment.
In the speech, Sharif described India’s launch of Operation Sindoor as “external aggression” and credited Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, with providing what he called “courageous leadership”. He also praised Trump’s “resolute and visionary leadership”, saying his intervention helped save millions of lives in South Asia.
Trump had made a similar claim in his UN General Assembly address earlier this week, saying he had helped settle eight conflicts, including the India-Pakistan confrontation. He also said Sharif had credited him with saving 30 million lives in South Asia.
India has rejected Trump’s account of the events and maintained that the military confrontation was brought to an end following direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two countries, without third-party intervention. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
Sharif also raised the Kashmir issue during his UN address, calling for what he described as a “just and fair solution” to prevent a recurrence of the 2025 confrontation. India has consistently rejected Pakistan’s position on Kashmir.
