UKRAINE SIGNALS OPENNESS TO INDIA-BACKED TRUCE PROPOSAL AMID WAR
October 4, 2026
KYIV — Ukraine has described India’s ceasefire proposal as one of the broadest initiatives for reducing hostilities in the ongoing war with Russia, expressing its willingness to consider arrangements for a temporary halt to attacks on energy infrastructure and in the Black Sea.
Ukrainian officials have indicated that Kyiv is prepared to examine proposals aimed at limiting attacks on critical energy facilities and securing maritime routes, potentially creating opportunities for wider diplomatic engagement.
The proposal comes amid continuing international efforts to de-escalate the conflict, which has severely affected regional security, energy infrastructure and global economic stability. A limited ceasefire covering specific strategic areas could help reduce immediate risks to civilian infrastructure and commercial shipping.
India’s diplomatic engagement reflects its continued involvement in international efforts to encourage dialogue between the warring sides. However, any agreement would depend on the willingness of both Moscow and Kyiv to accept mutually agreed terms and establish mechanisms for implementation.
Ukraine’s response signals openness to further discussions, although a concrete agreement on the proposed ceasefire arrangements remains uncertain.
